BEDAT & Co GENEVE UNVEILS THE ABSOLUTE WOMANITY COLLECTIONS OF 2014
In the middle of the 16th century, the Swiss watch and clock industry established itself in Geneva, a place where independent craftsmanship in watchmaking could flourish and be celebrated.
Throughout the Centuries that followed the art of fine watchmaking evolved and developed with many innovations, groundbreaking techniques and new and ever more astonishing developments being adopted by this highly specialist and captivating industry.
At the very top of what was at the time, a male dominated environment, was a woman who rose from being a humble apprentice, to being a key part of the leadership of an industry giant that she had helped build up from it’s very start, into something worth many millions and occupying a dominant position. Having released her equity, industry legend Madame Simone Bedat, chose not to follow the easy path of putting her feet up for a very well deserved rest but instead she followed her conviction and launched the fine, luxury timepiece brand that she felt the industry needed, a brand that would bear her name, ensuring it would remain at the top of the industry for many generations to come.
Wanting to make sure women were afforded equal respect as their male luxury timepiece collector counterparts she ensured ‘her’ company – BEDAT & Co GENEVE - Madame Bedat made a commitment to craft her timepieces in line with the 500 year-old Swiss tradition, with precise attention to detail and inspired by Art Deco, dedicated to every successful, independently-minded and cosmopolitan woman.
Today, BEDAT & Co GENEVE has grown into a globally successful, women’s fine timepiece brand, ensuring the vision and conviction of Madame Bedat is respected and embodies the needs, aspirations and desires of women at its very core.
In 2013, BEDAT & Co GENEVE appointed Yolanda Foster, the Dutch born former supermodel and now highly successful actress, married to multiple ‘Grammy Award’ winning producer and songwriter David Foster, as its inaugural ‘Woman of Substance’ in recognition of the way she selflessly highlighted the struggle with Lyme disease, a condition which she herself suffers with, in a highly admirable, selfless and motivating way.
2013 also saw the foundation of a number of important relationships that epitomize the spirit of Madame Simone Bedat in which BEDAT & Co GENEVE acknowledges the role and importance of women in modern society through its sponsorship of ‘female-oriented and focused’ organizations including Hollywood’s ‘WIN Awards’ and Geneva’s very own ‘Womanity’, an international organzation that prectically supports womens causes in some of the worlds most challenging countries. Other BEDAT & Co GENEVE inniatives include our use of the globally famous, World Champion gymnast’s & performers of the Cirque Du Soleil 'Duo Main TenanT' who appeared on behalf of the brand at the biannual Womanity gala evening.
The Volutes of Woman’s Grace
A movement between the two World Wars from the 1920’s to 1930’s created an eclectic and influential, visual arts design of rich colors, bold geometric or curves shapes, and lavish ornamentation called Art Deco. The new collections of BEDAT & Co GENEVE for BaselWorld 2014 beautifully capture the essence of women, inspired by exquisite artworks of Art Deco artist, Paul Kiss ; a table lamp in wrought iron and alabaster (lampe de table en fer forge et albâtre) and a wrought iron and marble console table (console en fer forge, plateau et étagère de marbre) which are voluptuous like a woman can be.
They are rich in volutes (curves), which are like the wind and the water; permanent movement like a woman in her daily life. The grace of the volutes proportion is like the attention a woman is gives to her own appearance. Applying the design of wrought iron on the dial of References 316, 384, 827, 828 and Extravaganza 887 further enhances the aesthetic view and art déco spirit of Bedat & Co timepiceces with the volutes of flower petals, graced by diamonds and precious stones. The flower, the main symbol of aesthetic, is standing next to the “8” logo that sustains the flower and creates strong visibility for the brand. With the new collections, BEDAT & Co GENEVE sees through the volutes and perpetuity, the never-ending flow of life generated by women.
